Rehearsal 4

(Project 3)

12th June

We had our fourth rehearsal today - click here to meet the dancers.

We would like to have your thoughts on this work - what you like or  what you think works best, suggestions for music or costumes, etc.  We are also looking for an overall title for the piece.  Please leave a message on the Bulletin Board, or email us at hands-on@satorimedia.com

Relationships Duet - developed further

In Rehearsal 2, Abbie and Liz were working on a relationships duet, based on love/hate.  In Rehearsal 3, they developed it using the input from Dan about his friend.

In this rehearsal, Abbie and Liz were joined by Maggie, to work on the dance using the inspiration of Simon's video.  Simon's video is about the interference caused to the dance image by compression on the Internet.  I will ask Simon if I can reproduce it on the Inspirations Page of the project.

Maggie took a very short movement theme, which she performs once solo at the beginning of the dance.  Then Abbie and Liz come in with the movement from the Relationships Duet, and their dance interferes with Maggie's dance, so that each transforms the other.

Encounter Duet

Clare and Coco selected some movement from the improvisations in the first rehearsal:
Improvisation 1 - we liked the first movement made by the dancer with the orange trousers - we liked the sweeping nature of the movement which was also tightly controlled.  The movement where she slides her hands down her back followed by the 'passing on' movement with the hands towards the next dancer were particularly effective.

Improvisation 2 - we liked the last movement by the dancer in the white zip-up top with blonde hair.  We particularly liked the arm movements.

They also sent in some Escher images for us to work with - click here to see the images on the inspiration page.  We combined the movements that they chose with the images, and came up with this duet.

The phrases that Clare and Coco selected worked very well together, and the dancers, Ronnie and Sarah, added references to the positions of the creatures in the Encounter image.  They also began together, and parted, traveling a circular pathway to meet again, as the figures in the image do.

Encounter Group

Using the duet above called Encounter, Maggie and Abbie learned the dance from Ronnie and Sarah.  They then performed the dance so that Ronnie and Sarah started half way through it, while Maggie and Abbie began at the start.  Ronnie and Sarah circle round Maggie and Abbie, and then Maggie and Abbie circle round Ronnie and Sarah.  This could keep traveling forwards as long as you wanted to go on repeating it - which was a reference to Özgün's quote:

A GOOD TRAVELLER HAS NO FIXED PLANS AND NOT INTENT ON ARRIVING
