We would like to have your thoughts on this work - what you like or what you think works best, suggestions for music or costumes, etc. We are also looking for an overall title for the piece. Please leave a message on the Bulletin Board, or email us at hands-on@satorimedia.com
A Beginning - with walkingClare suggested that walking feet needed to come in earlier in the Beginning section (see rehearsal 5):The T. S. Eliot one I'm not so sure about. I like the idea of the small movements making a journey but I wasn't sure the journey ever really got going. If it was simply used as a lead in to a longer dance which was unmistakably a journey it might be very good. Perhaps the finger walking needs to be echoed by feet walking at an earlier point in the dance.... I'm not sure! Last rehearsal when we worked on this section, Liz wasn't with us. So we decided to add her feet in at the beginning. Her feet lead our eyes (or the camera) across the screen to Abbie, who echoes the walking with her fingers going back the other way. We are intending this to lead into the longer dance, which I hope will be a journey in a number of senses. We only videoed the very beginning, as the longer version is already
up on Rehearsal 5.

An Ending? We are probably going to create a climax to the dance with the Encounter Group (see rehearsal 5). We will bring all six dancers into it, so that they work slowly forward down the stage, circling round each other. We haven't put the video up again as you can see it in rehearsal 5.Our composer is coming up with a piece of electro acoustic music which echoes an African drum, as Veronica suggested (see discussion page, 4th June). We tried the Encounter section with the music today, and it gave a more grounded feeling to the movement, more like the image that inspired it (see inspirations page, encounter image). We should have this section of the music up on the site soon. Then to finish we wanted to pick up on the beginning again, giving the dance a feeling of going on beyond the performance - the dancers never actually arrive anywhere, although their journey has taken them somewhere. They just keep travelling off the stage. |
