Rehearsal 3

Rehearsal 3 - 1st March

This rehearsal began by working further with the Mirror Trio devised in Rehearsal 2.  We decided to work mainly from this material today, to develop the intimacy in this movement.  (The movement from Colleen's improvisations is not ready to film yet.)
Unfortunately Christa has sprained her neck so she was unable to join us for rehearsal today.  We hope that she will be back with us on Friday for the next rehearsal, and meanwhile we wish her well.

Dance-Making Tasks:

Mirror Group

Sarah J and Sarah P taught the part danced by Christa in the mirror trio to Emily.  Then those three taught their mirror image parts to Beccy, Tara and Dee.  The girls practised it in mirror unison at first, and then the original three girls started a little before the mirror three - so that it was done in canon.  We tried filming it end on to the mirror, so that there appeared to be six girls in each row, but it became too complicated to watch.  So we filmed it with just the six of them, with the imaginary mirror down the centre.

Mirror Duet

The relationships that came out of the Mirror Group were particularly clear between Tara and Sarah P.  Their movement seemed to have patterns that we wanted to develop, so Tara and Sarah P worked on their own duet.

Three Ages

Emily, Sarah J and Beccy returned to the mirror itself to work on solos with a link.  They used the animated gif from Clare as an inspiration (on the Inspirations Page - click here).  They chose movements that they associated with looking in the mirror, and made a short sequence from them.  Then they each took an image from Clare's mirror.  Emily took the young woman, and performed the movements in a carefree manner.  Sarah J chose the middle woman and was more concerned about her image, looking for wrinkles and signs of ageing.  Beccy took the old woman, and brought out her own fears of growing old in the movements.
